Certified Ethical Hacker exam may ask about what are the names of Regional Internet Registry(RIR).
There are 5 RIRs as listed below
|AFRNIC||Africa, portions of the Indian Ocean|
|APNIC||Portions of Asia, portions of Oceania|
|ARIN||Canada, many Caribbean and North Atlantic islands, and the United States|
|LACNIC||Latin America, portions of the Caribbean|
|RIPENCC||Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia|
There could be few types of questions regarding RIRs.
Type1, those questions would simply ask to name all or part of the name of RIRs, like;
Q. Your company trainee Sandra asks you which are the four existing Regional Internet Registry (RIR’s)?
A. APNIC, PICNIC, ARIN, LACNIC
B. RIPE NCC, LACNIC, ARIN, APNIC
C. RIPE NCC, NANIC, ARIN, APNIC
D. RIPE NCC, ARIN, APNIC, LATNIC
Type2, those questions ask which RIRs the given domain belongs to, like;
Q. Your lab partner is trying to find out more information about a competitors web site. The site has a .com extension. She has decided to use some online whois tools and look in one of the regional Internet registries. Which one would you suggest she looks in first?
// In this case, the given domain extension is a “*.com”. Therefore it’ll belong to ARIN(American Registry for Internet Numbers)
Type 3. those questions probably throw you a random country’s name and let you figure out the rest, like this one.
Q. Bill has started to notice some slowness on his network… blah blah blah… Bill decides to use Geotrace to find out where the suspect IP is originates from. The Geotrace utility runs a traceroute and finds that IP is coming from Panama. Bill knows that none of his customers are in Panama so he immediately thinks that his company is under a Denial of Service attack. Now Bill needs to find out more about the originating IP Address. What Internet registry should Bill look in to find the IP Address?
Well, I hope the exam will never come up with a country name ones in here(“6 Countries You’ve Definitely Never Heard Of“) and ask you which RIRs it belongs to. Good luck!
